Madam’s Organ loves the Adams Morgan Community and since we first opened in 1992 have helped finance, organize and promote the Adams Morgan Day Festival

However, for the second year, we have chosen to not participate due to our grave concerns about financial accountability and prior reported financial mis-deeds of the festival organizer, Lisa Duperier, President of Adams Morgan Mainstreet, and Charles Brazie, head of security for the festival and Duperier’s long-time friend

Although un-indicted, both Duperier and Brazie were accused of defrauding Duperier’s former friend and employer of

Ten Million Dollars

(Brazie was even the subject of a 2001 Senate Select Committee report on Money-laundering detailing the fraud perpetrated on Duperier’s friend/employer)

We have been contacted by numerous people who have sworn to the veracity of the claims, including the victim, Houston philanthropist, Virgil Waggoner and former DEA chief Asa Hutchinson, a close personal friend of the victim.  

Initially, we brought our concerns to Duperier/Brazie privately and it was our hope that they would resign their positions quietly, without the need to alert others to the situation.  Obviously that has not worked.

We believe that these individuals should not be in

positions of leadership and trust until the completion of a full and truthful  investigation shows no wrongdoing…..un-indicted is not enough……By the time the true scope of the fraud was discovered, the statute of limitations  had run out.

A 2007 Politico article is attached and a copy of the actual lawsuit and the Senate report will be provided to anyone who asks.  The Politico report does appear to show collusion by all of the parties in the fraud scheme

We hope to participate and support the festival in the future and hope that everyone understands that we have not made this decision lightly.
